The Backstory: Nobel Peace Prize nominated animal activist, photographer, Ursula Vari travelled to the Amazon region of Peru in March 2015. There, she witnessed the tragic reality of street dogs who on a daily basis, face unspeakable cruelty and indifference to their suffering by most locals. The very moment Vari rescued a dying street dog, Project Street Dog was born. As the founder of the volunteer based rescue group, Vari spends her time between Peru and Los Angeles, rescuing and rehabilitating stray animals. She organizes and runs small-scale sterilization and street campaigns, bringing free veterinary services to rural and low-income neighborhoods. She also created educational programs for children in the community. For more on her mission and to see how you can help, please visit the project's website.
